Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our authentic heritage weaves, from the loom to your wardrobe.
Authenticity & Products
How do I know my Utkal Aditri saree is an authentic handloom?
Every pure silk saree from Utkal Aditri comes with a Government of India certified Silk Mark tag. Additionally, all our products carry the Handloom Mark, legally guaranteeing that they are 100% handwoven by traditional artisans in Odisha without the use of power looms.
What is the difference between Sambalpuri, Bomkai, and Khandua?
These are distinct weaving traditions from different regions of Odisha. Sambalpuri is known for its complex Ikat (Bandha) tie-and-dye method where threads are dyed before weaving. Bomkai originates from Ganjam and features intricate extra-weft threadwork on the pallu. Khandua, traditionally woven in Nuapatna, is famous for its temple borders and lightweight feel.
Are the colors fast? Will they bleed during washing?
We use high-quality dyes, including traditional natural dyes for many of our heritage pieces. While the colors are fast, authentic handlooms—especially those made with natural dyes—can release excess surface color during the first wash. This is why we strictly recommend Dry Clean Only.
Sizing & Fit
What are the standard dimensions of your sarees?
Our sarees are woven to a generous, universal standard. The length is typically 5.5 meters, and the width is between 1.1 and 1.2 meters, allowing for a graceful floor-length drape for most heights up to 5'10".
Do the sarees come with a blouse piece?
Yes. Almost all of our handloom sarees come with an unstitched, matching blouse piece woven directly into the fabric. The blouse piece adds an extra 0.8 to 1.0 meters to the total length, providing ample fabric for tailors to stitch custom blouses up to size XXL.
Ordering, Shipping & Discounts
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes! We offer 100% complimentary standard shipping across all of India.
How long will it take to receive my order?
Orders are typically dispatched within 3-5 working days. Depending on your location in India, delivery takes an additional 4-7 business days.
Are there any discounts for prepaid orders?
Yes! To encourage contactless and secure transactions, we automatically apply a 5% discount at checkout for all prepaid orders.
Care Instructions
How should I wash and care for my handloom saree?
To preserve the rich texture and vibrant colors of the silk and cotton, we strictly recommend Dry Clean Only. Never machine wash or hand wash your silk sarees at home.
How should I store my silk sarees to prevent damage?
Store your sarees wrapped in a soft, pure cotton or muslin cloth. Avoid hanging silks for long periods as they can lose their shape. Keep them in a dry, dark place, and refold them every few months to prevent permanent creasing and fabric tearing at the folds.
